Nigeria’s reformed Alewa Youth Council (RAYCN) filed petitions with the Police Inspector (IGP) and the Department of State (DSS) raising concerns over planned mass protests across the Northern Province.
In a petition signed by National President Bilal Abdulahi, Raycn urged security agencies to investigate the potential impact of the protest into national stability.
According to Raycn, the demonstrations are expected to spread to Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna and Katsina Shaates before they begin in the village of former Sokoto governor Attahiru Bafarawa.
The group is also calling for an investigation into alleged involvement of Bafarawa and former Rivers governor Rotimi Amachi in the planned protest.
While acknowledging the country’s economic hardships, the group warned that if the protests are not properly managed, it could escalate tensions and pose security risks.
The group urged security agencies to closely monitor the situation, ensuring that legitimate expressions of dissatisfaction did not lead to obstacles.
Raycn further emphasized that the federal government is actively tackling economic challenges through initiatives focusing on industrial growth, food security, energy stability and investment appeal.
The group emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement, urging stakeholders and citizens to cooperate in maintaining peace.
Abdullahi said: “Despite Nigeria’s economic challenges rooted in past misgovernance, President Tinubu demonstrates his commitment to solving these issues.”
He also opposed actions that could threaten national unity, stressing: Every country has laws that protect its sovereignty, and Nigeria must not be the exception. ”
The group called on security agencies to investigate the protests and the people behind them, warning that failure to take action could lead to serious consequences for peace and harmony in Nigeria.
“Raycn reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to unity, progress and security, urging all well-intentioned Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s administration and contribute to maintaining national stability,” the group said. said.
