Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has responded to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike over his comments on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s 2027 presidential ticket.
Naija News recalls that Wike had earlier said that Atiku would not be allowed to be the presidential candidate of the PDP in 2027.
The minister said: “He’s been lobbying for another chance, but he won’t get one. In what party? How can you rely on one man for so many years?”
Wike declared this at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, saying the former vice president had no chance of success in 2027.
The FCT Minister further asserted that Mr. Atiku is seeking a new opportunity to be the party’s candidate but will not be given that opportunity.
In a swift response, Mr. Atiku, through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr. Plank Shaibu, reminded Mr. Wike and how he had educated his disciples during the 2019 elections.
Mr Atiku said Wike would have claimed the party’s presidential ticket for himself if he had the power to do so.
“If he had the power to hand out presidential tickets like party favors, he definitely would have kept them for himself.” After all, Mr. Atiku held the presidential ticket in his backyard ahead of the 2019 election. and thoroughly educated his chosen disciples, who then handed him a crushing defeat in the 2023 Abuja primaries.
“However, even though Mr. Tinubu has publicly declared that he is destined to win in 2027, he remains fixated on who will be the PDP candidate here.
“Isn’t it too early for that? We should focus on the real problem: the deteriorating living conditions of Nigerians.
“This hunger is becoming intolerable. It’s something we have to work on, not a political ploy for 2027,” Scheib said in a chat with Daily Post.
