Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, has warned Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Yusuf not to please the former governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the detriment of the people.
There are rumors within the Kwankwasiya Movement and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) that Mr. Kwankwaso has undue influence over Yusuf’s government, with some claiming that he is dictating key policy decisions.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja yesterday, Sumaila warned that millions of Kano citizens will not forgive the governor if he fails.
He stressed that Mr. Yusuf must also unite and work with Mr. Kwankwaso in the interest of the people.
The lawmaker said the biggest danger is betraying God who worked hard for him to become governor of Kano state.
“If it’s one person, you ask that person for forgiveness and he will forgive you,” he said. But if you betray over 20 million people, or even the few who supported you, I implore Governor Aba to avoid this danger.
“He also emphasized that his government is not only concerned with the rights of Kwankwaso and Kwankwasiyya members, but also the NNPP members and all others who supported him hand in hand until he became governor. We must know that people also have rights.
“We also have rights that must be protected and that is the first thing he has to be aware of.
“He must also protect the rights of APC members who did not even vote for him. Same goes for members of the PDP and other smaller parties.”
