Botswana seeks further trade and economic partnership
Botswana describes Nigeria as an important partner in achieving business cooperation and growth in terms of human trade.
The High Commissioner of Botswana to Nigeria, Ms. Filda Keren, made this known during Botswana’s 58th National Day celebrations in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
The High Commissioner said Nigeria is endowed with both natural and human resources, which, if properly utilized, would boost the economies of both countries and Africa as a whole.
“Both countries have economic strength, so I want us to work together to lead the African continent.
“Nigeria has a lot of enterprising trade. When Nigerians want to do business, they show resilience against all difficulties to achieve the set goals. We are also paying attention to the creative field.
“We have talented people who can grow even when they are not working, allowing them to enter the film, food, fashion and music industries that Nigeria leads. We will leverage our projects and business connections to advance business relations and deepen trade cooperation,” she said.
The envoy lamented the low level of trade between the two countries, but said more efforts were needed to harness the economic advantages between the two countries.
“We are looking at opportunities to get more creative skills from Nigeria in the development of more products, especially cosmetics and textile products. We also want to leverage such skills and build capacity through it. ”So we don’t have a lot of things we’re working on together in terms of imports and exports at the moment, but we need to develop the ones that we think have potential. Nigerians can also learn from Botswana’s livestock farming and beef production, which is exported to European countries to further develop the country’s economy. We will continue to work together in the beef production sector and Nigeria can now invest in training its citizens in the creative sector,” she added.
Similarly, according to Namibia’s High Commissioner to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Humphrey Gaisebu, Botswana is probably the world’s largest diamond producer, which is good for Africa and for economic growth in the sub-region. It states that. .
“Botswana has been an important friend of Namibia for many years. When Botswana gained independence, the Namibian people rejoiced. Today, Botswana celebrates its 58th Independence Day. Botswana enjoys economic prosperity and peace. We are equally pleased that this is happening in a context where we are increasingly deepening ties between our two countries, and also regarding travel between our countries where citizens only use ID cards. We are very happy because the prosperity that Botswana is enjoying is also the prosperity of the entire sub-region. Because we feel that everyone is benefiting from the same progressive advances in the country,” he said.
He further added: “Botswana is known as the world’s largest producer of diamonds. And this is good for Africa, as countries like Botswana produce high-quality diamonds and achieve a lot. This shows that Botswana has endured many hardships during its 58 years of independence, and has achieved tangible results in various fields.
Today, Southern Africa is happy because we are taking the diamonds to Botswana. Because Botswana is also a place where you can sell diamonds. On the other hand, they are buying diamonds from us by bringing them in to be polished. Nigerians should pay more attention to countries like Botswana. “Botswana is a country that produces high-quality diamonds,” he added.
Botswana, a country in South Africa, achieved independence on September 30, 1966.
