Central Coast Mariners’ latest signing, Brooke Nunn, is keen to represent Nigeria at international level.
Nunn, who is of Nigerian and German descent on her mother’s side, expressed her passion for joining the Nigeria women’s national team. It’s a dream she describes as an honor and a sense of personal accomplishment.
“I have Nigerian blood from my mother, who is half-Nigerian and half-German,” Nan revealed.
“She was born in England like me, but I lived in foster care from an early age. She feels that this potential (Nigerian spirit) is reflected in her. I think being a part of the team (Super Falcons) is an honor and an accomplishment for me as a football player. It’s something that fulfills you.”
Despite Nunn having played for England at youth level, the idea of representing Nigeria was not until recently as players such as Ashley Plumptre have paved the way for overseas-born players to join the Super Falcons. He admitted that it was not possible.
“Initially, a few years ago, I didn’t think the possibility of playing for the Super Falcons existed, because you don’t often see or hear about players in the team who didn’t grow up in Nigeria. is.”
“However, thanks to the paradigm shift in recent years, players of Nigerian descent overseas are also given the possibility of representing Nigeria, which gave me hope and belief that I too could have the opportunity to play for Nigeria. .”
“It’s very motivating and I want to be a symbol of this possibility.”
A versatile winger and midfielder, Nunn has had an impressive career, having developed through Arsenal’s academy and being part of the team that won the Women’s Super League title in 2011 and 2012.
She was also the youngest player in Arsenal’s Champions League team in 2011. Now she wants to bring that talent and experience to Africa’s most successful national team, the Super Falcons.
