Controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has regained his freedom after five days in detention.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reported that Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, was initially reported missing for three days, sparking widespread concern.
Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who confirmed Darlington’s arrest, revealed that Darlington was arrested in Lagos last Friday and later transferred to Abuja, where he was being held.
A video showing the singer in handcuffs and suggesting an arrest was later leaked on social media.
However, in the latest development, the music star was released to his lawyer on Tuesday night after fulfilling the bail conditions set by the police at the Information Response Team (IRT) division in Abuja.
In a post via X, Adeyanju thanked those who contributed to the singer’s release and praised the “professionalism” of the IRT department police.
In a recent video, Speed Darlington questions the authenticity of Burna Boy’s Grammy Award and links the A-list artist to embattled music mogul Sean Combs, known as P. Diddy or Puff Daddy. I want you to remember what happened.
Burna Boy tweeted on Tuesday morning under his handle X: “Who’s missing?”
Darlington’s mother, the Queen, had earlier implored Nigerians to ask Burna Boy to “temper justice with mercy”.
