The Adamawa State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the Federal Government to translate its commitment to support its people into action to ameliorate the current hardships in the land.
The state CAN Chairman, Pastor Joel Manzo, made the call at a special church service held to commemorate Nigeria’s Independence Day 2024 at the First Baptist Church, Jimeta, Yola.
Manzo said Nigerians were tired of mere promises without fulfillment to improve their plight.
“We hope that the Federal Government will translate promises into action as is being experienced here in Adamawa State under the ‘Fresh Air’ regime.
“Today in Nigeria, we have a situation where you run away from one murderer and end up in the hands of another who is waiting.
“We must therefore bear in mind the need for equal rights, opportunities and unfair treatment under the law.
The pastor said that despite progress made in some areas, Nigeria still faced challenges such as insecurity, economic hardship, corruption and social injustice.
He claimed: “Our hope is in Christ, the hope of glory. With Him, all things are possible. Christ gives beauty instead of ashes, oil of joy instead of sorrow, and oil of joy instead of despair. The situation may change, as we will give the garment of praise instead of the “garbage of praise,” the cleric added.
A prayer for the prosperity of Nigeria was offered by Fr. Mr. Simon Tize participated in the program with the theme “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
