Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai announced in Abuja on Tuesday that the Chinese government will work to strengthen educational exchange programs with Nigeria.
Mr. Dunhai made this statement at the inauguration of the Chinese language corner and award ceremony of the 2024 Chinese Ambassador Painting Competition at Government Secondary School, Use Zone 3, Abuja.
The Ambassador stressed that education is critical to promoting economic development and social progress.
“Education is a fundamental driver of national development. By strengthening educational opportunities in Nigeria, we can work together to build a brighter future for both countries.
“We believe that education is not just about acquiring knowledge; it is about building lasting friendships and partnerships,” he said.
Mr. Dunhai noted that China has set up about 13 Chinese language corners in Nigeria, equipped with computers, Chinese books and movies, to promote education and cultural diversity.
He also outlined several ongoing initiatives aimed at improving education infrastructure and access in Nigeria.
“These initiatives include providing scholarship opportunities for Nigerian students to study in China, providing educational materials and supporting the construction of schools in disadvantaged areas,” he explained.
Danhai also mentioned the possibility of cooperation programs between Chinese and Nigerian institutions to promote knowledge exchange and technological advancement.
The Director-General and Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Commission, Dr. Muhammed Ladan, expressed his appreciation for China’s unwavering support in improving the quality of education in Nigeria through valuable partnerships.
“Our partnership with China in the education sector is critical to our efforts to improve the quality of education in Nigeria.
“The corner will serve as a resource center for Chinese language education and a hub for cultural exchange between Nigeria and China.
“We welcome these efforts and look forward to working closely with the Chinese government,” Ladan said.
The principal of the school, Mr. Josephine Ogwu, thanked the Embassy and the Chairman of China Harbor Engineering Company Nigeria Limited, Martin Cheng, for establishing the cultural centre.
He pointed out that the center represents China’s strong commitment to educational and cultural exchanges.
Mr. Ogwu noted that the corner is important in promoting educational and cultural exchanges between Nigeria and China, broadening the global perspective of students and fostering tolerance to produce global citizens. .
