The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has questioned the federal government’s recent declaration that it has saved $20 billion through the controversial abolition of fuel subsidy and floating naira policy.
Finance Minister Wale Edun on Monday revealed that Nigeria has saved $20 billion through President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and market-based foreign exchange rate setting, Naija News reports.
Reacting to the government’s declaration in an interview with Punch, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi said Edun’s claims were “too porous” for Nigerians.
He claimed the submission was a lie from the depths of hell.
Mr. Abdullahi argued that the report was unsuitable for a government that is strangling parliament for loan approval.
He said, “It does not justify the attention of those who want attention to that story. It is pedestrian. It is the usual lies that APC spreads. This is a lie from the pit of hell. .It is an insult to our sensibilities as Nigerians.
“How can the same government that has delivered three simultaneous budgets in a calendar year, in the midst of national chaos, poverty, untold hardship, insecurity and horrific inflation unprecedented in Nigeria’s history, turn around and force us to do so? Can you say something like: They saved that amount of money during that time.
“So why do we have to raise money now to fund the project? We should have used the same resources we saved. This is even common sense. This government has been at its mercy for far too long and I am happy that Nigerians are starting to wake up to reality.”
The PDP spokesperson warned that the public has learned to look beyond the alleged shenanigans of the current government.
“Nigerians no longer take them seriously. They are just waiting for the grace of God to get these people out of the way. People in government come there without any preparation. And we prove every day how disconnected we really are from reality.
“But as a Nigerian and as a spokesperson for the main opposition party, I can tell you that wherever you go, the groans of the land and the grievances that have taken over the lives of Nigerians do not allow Nigerians to empathize with these people. “No matter what people’s intentions are,” he added.
