“Israel has the right to defend itself and its people.” This has been the case for decades by Israel’s allies, and by the American president, especially after the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas. This is a phrase I started saying a few days after I started.
But what do these words actually mean historically, politically, and in the midst of Israel’s invasions of Gaza and Lebanon?
