The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday granted a reduction in the bail conditions of five #EndBadGovernance protesters to N5 million each.

On September 11, Judge Emeka Nwaito granted bail of NOK 100 million to all 10 protesters.

The 10 are Michael Adalamoye, also known as Lenin, Adeyemi Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Comrade Opalwa Shimon, Angel Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiku, Bashir Bello, Nurudeen Khamis, Abduldalam Zubair. The defendant is charged with six crimes, including treason and conspiracy. He is committing serious crimes, inciting insurrection and attempting to destabilize Nigeria.

These crimes are said to be punishable under Article 97 of the Penal Code.

The defendants are accused of attempting to invade a place of power, setting a police station on fire and injuring a police officer.

The federal government also claimed that the protesters incited the public against the government and vandalized public facilities, including police stations, the High Court, and facilities of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The leadership recalled that five of the ten #EndBadGovernance protesters who were previously remanded to prison by the federal government are struggling to meet their original bail conditions.

This was disclosed by the lawyer for the first, second and fourth defendants, Marshall Abubakar, who said some of the protesters were unable to secure sureties for their land in Abuja, which is one of the bail requirements. said.

The court required that the guarantor be a resident of Abuja, own property in the city and deposit property documents with the registrar of the court.

Additionally, the surety was required to swear an affidavit of means, and both the defendant and the surety were required to provide an international passport and a recent passport photo to the registrar.

Judge Nwaito ruled that the protesters should be detained until bail conditions are met.

The defense team then appealed the strict bail conditions, arguing in particular that the five defendants were unable to meet them.

Following the application, Justice Nwaito reduced the bail amount of the five protesters who asked for the change to a total of N25 million.

Each individual must post bail of five million naira with one surety of the same amount and, in the absence of parents, a close relative such as the father, mother, or another blood relative residing within the jurisdiction. It won’t happen.
