WAXAHACHEE — The Crossroads of Texas Country Festival features everything from music and entertainment to food vendors and food courts in downtown Waxahachie.
This music helped people get into the spirit of Texas at a festival sponsored by CBS Texas. People and their four-legged friends enjoyed shopping at hundreds of booths.
“They do a great job of bringing in unique vendors. Everything is handmade so you know they’re getting things from local small businesses,” Jessica Brinton said.
Brinton worked as a veterinary technician for 20 years before starting her own business, Hambone and Dogs Pet Treats, in northern Tarrant County. She sells dog bandanas, leashes and treats.
“We wanted to create something that was not only good for them, but also tasted great,” Brinton said.
The festival features over 250 vendors, and it wouldn’t be Texas without barbecue. A local vendor won an award two years ago for its pulled pork.
“Pork was something I started doing 15 years ago, and I would bring it to family dinners, and it was sitting in the corner, so of course that motivated me to cook it right, and I did it right. It’s been one of our best sellers ever since,” Nelson McGuire said.
McGuire lives in Midlothian and has been trying for years to get his food truck, McGuire’s Way Bar BQ, into the festival. He hopes to come back next year.
“I just hope they’ll embrace us again, and I hope the show continues to grow and people continue to participate,” McGuire said.
“I’d love to come back next year, especially with this great weather,” Brinton said.
The weather is nice, so shoppers and their furry friends put their feet up. The festivities continue until 7 p.m.
