Miriam Morales Palmero, Cuba’s Ambassador to Nigeria, reiterated Cuba’s continued commitment to strengthening bilateral economic and commercial ties between the Nigerian government and people and Cuba.
Ambassador Morales gave this assurance at the 50th Anniversary of Bilateral Relations and Cuban Culture Day in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
She explained that the two countries are linked by genes, patriotic, rebellious and resilient idiosyncrasies, traditions and religious beliefs, making the relationship indestructible.
“For the last 50 years, we have worked not only to maintain our bilateral relations, but also to strengthen and develop the ones we have built. At the economic and commercial level, the level of exchanges has increased over the past two years. , business and investment possibilities and opportunities have expanded.
Signing agreements, memoranda of understanding, letters of intent, and exchange of pharmaceutical and biotechnological products in areas such as health, education, science and technology, agriculture, sports, culture, and energy are noteworthy. Exchanges between the private sectors are increasing, opening up new opportunities and possibilities for cooperation,” she explained.
According to the envoy, both countries have many possibilities to explore with the aim of providing a better future for their people.
She also praised Nigeria for always supporting Cuba so that the heritage of its ancestors is not lost.
“In the international arena, our two countries have maintained a fluid relationship of mutual cooperation based on national respect. Also, the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tugar, who was represented by the Regional Director, Ambassador Janet Orisa, said the long-standing bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Cuba was defined by a spirit of cooperation and friendship.
“There is no doubt that the spirit of cooperation and friendship has characterized our long-standing relationship. We look back on our shared values, the progress we have made and the great progress we have made over the years. We must thank the Cuban government and people for welcoming our students. We have very talented graduates who have studied over the years, especially in the field of medicine. Relations between Cuba and Nigeria, which began in 1974, trace back to the continuation of historical ties that began with the arrival of the first Africans, most of whom were of Nigerian origin and inhumanely brought to Cuba as slaves. .
Approximately 400 Nigerian students are currently attending various universities in Cuba, primarily medical schools.
