Elected members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) have declared that all members of the party contributed to the current crisis rocking the main opposition party.
This is because they declared their support for Umar Damagum and claimed that he will remain in office as PDP chairman until December 2025.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, PDP leaders led by the party’s National Youth Vice President, Comrade Timothy Osadore, added that anyone who does not agree with the declaration can leave the party.
No one can be blamed for the current state of the party, Osador and his colleagues said, adding that it was time to stop the blame game and work to restore the party’s fortunes.
He also called on party members to stop using court orders and media interviews to distract the party and join hands with Damagum to move the PDP forward.
On the leadership crisis rocking the PDP regarding the post of national secretary claimed by the two, Osadore said the party would wait for the court’s decision.
“From 2013 until now, personal ambition has driven us to heights of pure mischief and arrogant use of power,” he said.
“As a result, agreements were not honored and the ambiguities of the Constitution were exploited by those in position, even through the courts.
“We are all accomplices, either by being perpetrators, by supporting them, or by remaining silent. No one will come to save us. We must stand up and be heroes. No. We brought ourselves here.
“Now is no longer the time for a blame game. Everyone was guilty. From the BOT chairman who supported the opposition governor to the candidate who negotiated with and supported candidates from other parties with the promise of returning support. , even NWC members and leaders who lost their voting units.
“We must all get off our high horses, forget our pride for now, and join forces with the party led by Anbu. Ilya Damagum will reposition this party on the path to victory.
“The obstruction of courts and the media’s interference with PDP’s marketing should stop immediately. You don’t have to like the executives, but the party is more important.
“If you want to resign and go, become a legitimate opposition party. Don’t stay here and go from the TV station to the radio station and abuse the party.
“The Acting National Chairman’s case will be resolved by December 2025 and the National Secretary’s case will wait in court.First of all, let us learn to always love and support the PDP.”
He cited issues such as mistrust, dishonesty, lack of firm enforcement of agreements, selfish interests and unnecessary eye-service mixed with rhetoric as some of the causes of the PDP crisis.
Osadore added that the PDP was also dealing with the tyranny of the All Progressives Congress-led federal government on the party and Nigerians in general.
“This action is clearly in their self-interest and is in no way in the interest of the PDP. It is not ethical or moral for party members to move around creating chaos instead of exploring internal mechanisms towards peace. It’s wrong,” he added.
According to a report by Naija News, those who attended the press conference were PDP National Youth Leader Acting Mr. Timothy Osadore, National Publicity Deputy Secretary General Ibrahim Abdullahi, National Deputy Finance Secretary Mr. Ndubisi Ene, and National Deputy Organizing Secretary Pascal.・Mr. Adigwe et al.
