Spokesman for Nigeria’s Opposition Members of Parliament, Hon Ikenga Ugotinyere, has said the removal of the National Chairman, Umaru Damagumu, is justified.
Naija News reports that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Debo Ologunagba has appointed Yayari Ahmed Mohammed as acting national chairman to replace Damagum.
While announcing the appointment of the new chairman, Ologunagba said, “The appointment with immediate effect is based on the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).”
This latest development follows the Damagum-aligned faction’s earlier announcement of the suspension of the National Legal Adviser, Mr Kamarudeen Ajibade, and the National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba, on similar charges of breach of trust. .
In a dramatic turn of events, Ologunagba, who had been suspended by the Damagum faction, issued a statement on Friday declaring that Damagum and Anyanwu would also be suspended.
Reacting to the development, Opposition Parliamentarians Union Spokesperson Ugochinyere said in a statement on Friday that PDP believers, supporters and stakeholders were satisfied with Damagum’s suspension.
Mr. Ugotinyere also accused Mr. Damagun of being an agent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and urged the PDP governors and stakeholders to meet to stop him (Mr. Damagun) from further destroying the party. did.
He said, “The news of Damagum suspension is a welcome development and there is jubilation everywhere and PDP believers, supporters and stakeholders are very happy with this development.” Damagum is working with its enemies to destroy the party and prevent it from participating in the 2027 elections.
