Daniel Lega, a prominent Nigerian social media commentator, has refuted claims that he is a troll. In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Lovin’ Mind hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Lega responded to a question on whether he was a troll and said: Absolutely not. ” He clarified that people often suffer from criticism more than they find themselves being trolls.
Rega stressed that he doesn’t mean for people to think he’s throwing shade, so he includes the phrase “No offense, no shade” in his posts when sharing them in the digital realm.
He also claimed that his personal opinions were supported by facts and often referred to past events. He does not hurl insults in people’s comment sections, but rather shares his opinions in response to what famous or frequently influential people say or do.
Lega expressed concern that Nigerians would interpret criticism as hate speech, personal viewpoints as trolling, and everything said would be seen as hate speech or influence. Regarding recent events, Rega revealed that he has received threats on his life due to his social media comments and opinions on X (formerly Twitter). He said he had to disguise himself when going out to avoid being identified in public by his social media enemies and facing the consequences of their threats. He added: “I wear a nose mask every time I step out of the house because I don’t know who I’m going to meet in public and who’s going to say, ‘I finally got it.'” , “I often receive threats. Recently, some people said they would shoot me if they saw me in Lagos, Ibadan or Benin. They even use RIP emojis and some even use guns and axes. Sometimes I’m scared, but I just pray and ask God to protect me.”
