The Federal Government has officially handed over the Kasimbila Dam to former Defense Minister Theophilus Danjuma’s private company, KP Hydro Limited.
The handover took place on Saturday at the dam site in Kasimbira, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State. The former minister is from this area.
The Kasimbila dam was originally a federal project, but is now managed by a consortium led by Danjuma’s company.
In addition to generating electricity, the dam is expected to turn the area into a tourist hub with an airport and five-star hotel.
Kasimbira Dam was started by the Goodluck Jonathan administration to prevent floods caused by water releases from Cameroon and has developed into an essential source of clean energy for Taraba State.
The 40-megawatt hydroelectric power plant is expected to enhance electricity supply and stimulate economic growth.
The airport, abandoned runway, and hotel were not originally part of the project when the federal government began it.
