The leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has made it clear that he does not support the idea of zoning in Nigerian politics.
The elder statesman maintained that zoning does not bring equity and has no impact on governance in Nigeria.
In an interview with Vanguard published on Sunday, the NNPP leader said there is no threat that would prevent him from fielding an alternative presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
He said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is doing everything it can to compromise the opposition and ensure that it cannot come up with an alternative without supporting its candidate in the 2027 presidential election.
In his words: “Are they being impartial? Have you ever asked a Nigerian on the street if there is fairness in what is happening in Nigeria today? Liquidation in 2027. The day is coming. I don’t believe in zoning, because I was a member of the Constituent Assembly in 1987, a member of the Constitutional Convention in 1994, and a member of the National Assembly in 2014. . That’s why we should know better. We created this Constitution.
“I know all the letters of it. The key question is whether there will be a vacancy in 2027. What I mean is to stop Nigerians from fielding an alternative presidential candidate. This is impossible even if there is a threat by someone at the time of the killing.Nigerians today send emissaries and offer tens of billions of dollars to political party leaders to compromise them. I say you should know what’s going on.”
