The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for spreading rumors about Governor Obolewori’s alleged defection plan to the party.
Naija News reports that the speculations, which Governor Obolewori had earlier denied through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Akhon, prompted a reaction from the APC.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojegwuo, the APC addressed the rumor and labeled it mere speculation.
Reacting, Delta PDP on Saturday, through its Information Secretary, Ifeanyi Osuoza, said the APC is a political party plagued by internal instability and relying on unsubstantiated claims.
Mr. Osuoza accused the APC of struggling with Governor Obolewwori’s growing popularity and performance of his administration.
He criticized the APC Public Relations Secretary for issuing a statement based on unconfirmed rumors, calling it a display of lack of judgment.
The PDP leader further noted that the APC’s insecurity stemmed from the governor’s inclusive leadership and good track record, which strengthened his popular support and political standing.
According to Osuoza, these achievements have already ensured that Obolewwori will be re-elected in 2027, leaving the APC anxious and hopeless.
He accused the APC of misinterpreting the governor’s call for cooperation with President Bola Tinubu’s administration to advance socio-economic reforms as a defection move.
The statement reads: “When an institution that is expected to act on information starts acting and reacting on speculation and rumors, we realize that there must be something wrong with its center, the medulla oblongata. I have to think about it.
“Therefore, the All Progressives Congress, Delta State Chapter, through its state Public Relations Secretary, Valentine Onojeguo, has authorized the release of a public statement in response to what Onojeguo himself termed “speculation”, as reported recently. is not surprising. The Rt. My lord. Sheriff Obolewori is defecting to the APC.
“It is even sadder that Mr. Onojeguo describes himself as a lawyer who should know the need to act based on facts, but that Delta APC suffers from incontinence and cannot help himself. The helplessness is understandable. The APC is currently suffering from insecurity, self-suffocation and pervasive fear as the Deltans appear determined to re-elect Sheriff Obolewori in 2027.
“Dejected, they resigned with hopes of resuming their campaign in 2027, but Mr Obolewwori’s responsible and inclusive leadership style and excellent performance have already convinced him of his return. At the same time, it shows them that they will suffer another ignominious defeat in 2027.” 2027.
“In comparison, in the last election, Delta APC paraded candidates that President Bola Tinubu would never want to associate with, in exchange for its long-hard-earned reputation as a democrat.
“But perhaps the most egregious and irresponsible betrayal by Delta APC is why Governor Obolewori is seeking the support of the people and great cooperation with the Tinubu administration to ensure the success of the ongoing socio-economic reforms. What they cannot understand is that
“For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP is driven by well-established principles of pursuing the socio-economic development and growth of the nation, the prosperity of its people, and the deepening of democracy to sustain good governance. , they have remained the guiding values of the Delta State governor thus far.
“All they want to do is survive by the kind of intelligenceless propaganda they are currently engaged in. Unfortunately for them, it doesn’t work.”
