DETROIT LAKE — Beau Schroyer, a missionary from Detroit Lakes, was killed in Angola, Africa, on Friday, Oct. 25, according to a notification from Lake Area Vineyard Director Rev. Troy Easton.

The notice, sent to the Lakes Area Vineyard congregation, states that Schroyer was killed in an act of violence while serving a mission, and details of the incident are unknown at this time.

Schroyer had a wife and five children.

“Moments like this raise so many unanswered questions for us, knowing that we may never understand why our father allowed something like this to happen. It will be even more painful,” Easton’s notice states. “Yet, in the midst of our shock and grief, we must remember not only the truth of the man Beau was, but also the wise, compassionate, merciful, loyal, trustworthy and ever-loving man he was.” Don’t forget the truth in the scriptures that shows the character of God: He saved the lost, the broken, the desperate, and the broken because of his love for the Lord. , I gave my life to the God who saved me and changed my life.”

Mr. Schroyer joined the Detroit Lakes Police Department in 2013 before becoming a real estate agent in the area. In 2021, he, his wife, and their five children moved to Africa to become missionaries. They’ve been there ever since.

The area is described by Schroyer as a “remote bush village” with no electricity, sewer or water systems.
