The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, has submitted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not win the 2024 Ondo State governorship election fairly.
In a statement on Monday, Odeyemi said the APC and its national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, should not get carried away with victory in Ondo.
In the backdrop of Ganduje’s statement after the Ondo elections that the APC’s next goal is to capture Osun, Oyo and the entire South-West states in future elections, the NNPP chairman said Osun is not Ondo.
Odeyemi added that Ganduje’s comments were reckless and unbecoming of the elder statesman, especially considering the current economic hardships Nigerians are enduring under the APC-led government.
According to Odeyemi, the APC was allegedly involved in vote-buying tactics, which he believes was a deliberate impoverishment of the masses.
He also challenged Ganduje to prove the popularity of APC in Kano state and ridiculed the NNPP’s victory in his own state.
He said: “One would expect Dr. Ganduje to display better communication skills befitting his position. With economic challenges facing Nigerians, who would be willing to vote for APC? Ganduje should not get carried away with what happened in Ondo State.”
Mr. Odeyemi called on all political stakeholders to respect the wishes of the people, stressing that Osun residents are politically conscious and will not tolerate electoral fraud or intimidation.
“The people of Osun are wise and peace-loving. Political parties must allow voters to decide freely. Ganduje must not turn the south-west into a war zone. Words spoken carry weight. 2026 must be a crisis-free year in Osun,” he added.
