Guterres called for an “immediate ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and accountability for crimes under international law.”
“The plight of Palestinian civilians trapped in northern Gaza is intolerable,” Secretary-General spokesman Stephane Dujarric said, adding that repeated efforts to deliver essential supplies “continue to be rejected by the Israeli authorities, with few exceptions.” “Countless lives are at risk,” he added. ”
The Israeli military said it was conducting operations in northern Gaza to prevent Hamas militants from regrouping.
The attack has led some observers to accuse Israel of carrying out a “surrender or starve” plan to drive Hamas out of northern Gaza.
