Explaining his decision, Emecheta said he carefully evaluated all applicants within the APGA and concluded that Onunkwo was the best candidate to represent the party in the Senate race.
“We reviewed the profiles of all other APGA applicants, and we found that Dr. Ebuka Onunkwo is the most qualified candidate. He said that what our party represents in terms of expression. It really embodies it. We need to do our best to the race in the Senate, and I believe he is that person,” Emecheta said.
He emphasized that his withdrawal was a personal decision and not affected by external pressures, including economic incentives.
Emecheta said: However, after assessing the situation, I realized that both Ebuka and me are from Ekwusigo. Instead of spending the resources to fight each other, it makes more sense to unite. ”
Emecheta also revealed that Onunkwo approached him and did not resign.
