Former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has announced his intention to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the crisis rocking the party.
Speaking to reporters in Aba, Mr. Ikpeazu asserted that the crisis plaguing the PDP was nearing an end and predicted that the party would be fairly stable by the next election cycle.
Mr. Ikpeazu further spoke about the resilience of the PDP, noting that conflict is a natural part of the life cycle of any political party.
He stressed that the PDP has stronger mechanisms for resolving internal disputes than any other political party in Nigeria.
Naija News reports that Ikpeazu’s position was expressed a day after the Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, announced that significant progress had been made in reconciling warring factions within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). The development comes as the PDP prepares for the 2027 general elections in a bid to strengthen its party strength and strengthen its electoral strategy.
In his speech, Mr. IIkpeazu said, “With the exception of my party, most other political parties cannot survive what we have survived so far. But we do have mechanisms for resolving conflicts. is built in, because in partisan politics conflicts are inevitable, and I am confident that conflict resolution is at hand and all will be well.”
Regarding his future political plans, Ikpeazu said, “My plan is to be a strong party member, stay focused, and look to God. There is nothing that comes to me that did not come from heaven. Heaven is still open.”
