Cross River Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Asuquo Adda has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
NAN reports that Ada’s defection follows several other defections that hit opposition parties in the state in recent times.
Mr. Ada said on Friday in Calabar that he has decided to continue his political career with the APC, which governs the state and federal levels.
Ada, who is the General Director of Campaigns and will be one of the PDP gubernatorial candidates in the 2023 general election, had earlier announced his resignation from the PDP through a letter.
The letter, dated October 23, was addressed to the party’s Enon Ward leadership.
Ada said: “As the situation demands, I agree with the difficult decision to resign as a member of the People’s Democratic Party, and I believe that I am finally convinced.”
“It is certainly true that change is a constant state of affairs and influences the circumstances of life as nature brings about changes in the story of life.
“I have no choice but to pray for the success of the party while devoting my future political sojourn to the instructions of Almighty God,” Ada said in the letter.
He is the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate and an ally of former senator Gershom Bassey, who represented Cross River South in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023.
The former senator was a founding member of PDP in Cross River.
