The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chijoke Ifunwo, has urged the media to engage in constructive criticism and be objective in reporting.
He called on media outlets in the state to support Governor Siminalai Hubala in his success, adding that the governor is a silent achiever.
The LG Chairman said this when several members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state visited his office.
He said: “We need your cooperation as you see what is happening in Rivers State. Some of your colleagues are writing things that are not true. We listen to their stories and we also look at their writing. We don’t know what they want to accomplish by bringing up stories like that, especially on social media.”
Mr. Ifunwo further maintained that Rivers State was too big for one man to control and vowed to always protect the governor and the state.
“As a local government, as a state, you all who live here know what we’re going through, that one man is trying to own our state.
“Let me also say that we are here to protect our people because Rivers State is too big for one person to own. Our local government has been liberated. “Whatever they’re doing, it’s their business and we’re not interested, what we’re interested in is the people,” he said.
Describing the governor as a quiet and humble man, Ifunwo said: “We will not allow them to intimidate us.During the crisis, when people tried to come here to disrupt parliament, I We saw what happened after the oath that they said no.
“The governor is a silent achiever and it is good for Rivers State. You can all attest that the governor has executed and commissioned many projects without appearing on national television. We are gradually developing and we are moving forward. I will be working with Simi Alai Hubara for eight years. No one can intimidate me and I will not lose focus.
