Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has called on opposition parties to unite in the run-up to the 2027 elections.
The PDP leader said the victory of National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Mahama in Saturday’s Ghanaian presidential election should be an eye-opener for Nigeria.
In a statement on Monday, Ologbondiyan advised Nigerians to learn from Ghanaians and stop making excuses for leaders who are shirking their duty to govern.
“I congratulate Ghanaian President-elect John Mahama on his electoral success.
“I have heard that John Mahama and his political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have similar colors and logos to the incumbent vice president of the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“While I congratulate the winners and especially the Ghanaian people, it is imperative that we examine, compare and contrast the situation in Ghana with our plight here in Nigeria.
“Ghanaians were determined to end the rule of a regime that was unable to improve its challenges. Today in Nigeria, we are making excuses as to why our rulers fail,” he said. spoke.
The former PDP spokesperson has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its Chairman Mahmoud Yakubu to learn from the Ghana elections.
Mr. Olonyondiyan noted that Nigeria had many lessons to learn from Ghana in the last presidential election.
He further added that “Ghanaians who adhere to the spirit of democracy must value their vote and make great efforts for it.In our Nigeria, we have seen what Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu’s INEC will produce. You already know.
“It is ridiculous that some people are already predicting who will succeed Mr Mahmoud and how they will perform in Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“It is not clear whether the cliché “no vacancy” was overused in Ghana’s elections. We acknowledge that the decision will be made.
“While we have many lessons to learn from Ghana’s elections and their results, the starting point for our country is continued political education and electoral reform.
“Let’s unite as opposition parties and chart a path forward.”
