The All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed its Team New Nigeria after former President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 election posters flooded the Kano metropolis.
Naija News reported on Thursday that posters of Jonathan running for the 2027 elections flooded the streets of Kano, sparking speculation about his possible return to politics.
The posters can be seen at strategic locations such as Gyadi Gyadi/Zoo Road Viaduct, Kofar Nasarawa, State Highways, and read “Team New Nigeria 2027; Team New Nigeria 2027; Team New Nigeria 2027; Team・New Nigeria 2027; Team New Nigeria; Good Luck Nigeria Needs — Dr. Good Luck Jonathan.”
TNN also constituted a harmonization committee in Kano state and was on the verge of registering as a political party with the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The group claimed to have mobilized 26,382,000 registered voters across Nigeria and developed key party structures including a flag, logo, constitution and manifesto.
In an interview with PUNCH, APC National Organizing Deputy Secretary-General Nze Chidi Duru said Jonathan cannot be given a ticket because he is not a card-carrying member.
Drew said the printing and promotion of Jonathan’s campaign is further proof that TNN is in no way an affiliate of the APC.
He recalled a similar situation when a number of his supporters obtained Mr Jonathan’s nomination form on the APC platform for the 2023 elections, a move he said he was unaware of. insisted.
Mr. Durr said: This is a group that I believe to be amorphous and unknown to APC. If they were genuine APC members, it would have been obvious that former President Goodluck Jonathan was not a member of the party.
“Even in the last election, when a group purchased a paper for Jonathan within the APC, it was immediately discounted and Jonathan was not given a ticket until he became a card-carrying member of the APC. We can give him that rating.
“But following non-members of the APC or developing understanding with non-members of the APC will prove once again the position that they (split groups) are not members of our party. If you are a member of the party and would like to launch another initiative within the APC, you are welcome. That is the beauty of democracy.
“As long as this is not done and they are currently operating within the ambit of the APC, they are not considered members and do not have any connection with the APC.”
