The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to working with stakeholders to create employment opportunities for the youth.
The Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, stated this during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, Director General and Chief Executive of the Ministry’s National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), in Abuja.
According to the Minister, the MoU will implement a comprehensive training program aimed at equipping one million young people with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in the insurance sector. That’s what I said.
Mr Olawande said the main issue affecting the youth was unemployment and the ministry would work with all stakeholders to create opportunities for the youth in areas such as data management, digital literacy, and the creative and entertainment sectors. He added that the current administration will strive to take the following steps: Identify opportunities in all areas to effectively engage the country’s youth.
He said, “This partnership will guide our efforts to bring one million young Nigerians into the insurance industry within the next year.”
“Nigeria’s future rests on the shoulders of the youth, who make up over 60% of the population. However, insurance, which is essential to the economy of a growing country like Nigeria, is underutilized in this critical demographic. “I haven’t,” he said.
Olawande stressed that the partnership with NAICOM is aimed at raising awareness among youths about the importance of insurance, promoting entrepreneurship and creating job opportunities in all 774 local governments in Nigeria.
“We will leverage digital technology to educate, inspire and connect young Nigerians to careers and opportunities in the insurance industry. The program will be launched on a digital platform already announced by President Bola Tinubu. Hosted through the Nigeria Youth Academy (NiYA), through NiYA we offer a number of insurance courses to help young people not only gain knowledge but also build connections with insurance companies, brokers and other stakeholders. “We will continue to do so,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to the President for his continued support of youth initiatives and providing the NiYA platform to the ministry. He also expressed his gratitude to the NAICOM leadership for making the program a reality.
Earlier, NAICOM Chief Executive Officer Omosehin stressed that the partnership with the ministry aims to provide opportunities for youth to grow, develop, work collaboratively and ultimately find employment.
He said the MoU is expected to pave the way for more than one million Nigerians to be properly trained and employed in the insurance industry, adding that the industry offers great employment opportunities for youths. He added that he is doing so.
He further added, “We have a sector that is ready for business and expansion and that needs the dynamism and energy that the youth can provide. To this end, NAICOM, in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Nigeria We provide the training you need.
“This training will help these young people reorient themselves and develop the skills they need to succeed in the insurance industry and become productive members of society. This will be an important victory for our country as we will not only be supporting ourselves but also our families and contributing to the growth and development of Nigeria,” he asserted.
