The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC Ltd) on Thursday announced that a helicopter operated by Eastwinds Aviation lost contact while en route from Port Harcourt to the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Antan oil production facility.
The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Sonnier said there were eight people on board the plane: six passengers and two crew members.
He said search and rescue operations were currently underway and three bodies had been recovered.
“On October 24, 2024, at approximately 11:22am, contact was lost with a helicopter engaged by NNPC Limited – Registration Number: 5NBQG, which took off from Port Harcourt NAF Base while en route to FPSO – NUIMS ANTON.
“The helicopter was operated by Eastwinds Aviation. There were eight people on board (six passengers and two crew members),” Sonneh said.
He said he had contacted the relevant authorities, including the aviation ministry, and subsequently issued a press statement.
