Lebanon’s Hezbollah on Thursday said it had used precision-guided missiles against troops for the first time and announced a new phase in its war against Israel.

Rivals have been engaged in close-range fighting in Lebanese border villages after Israel launched a ground invasion last month.
“Hezbollah has announced the transition to a new escalatory phase in the conflict with our enemy Israel, which will be reflected in developments and events in the coming days," the group said in a statement.
The announcement came after Israeli forces announced Thursday that they had killed Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, an ally of Hezbollah.
However, the statement did not mention the head of Hamas.

On September 27, Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a Beirut airstrike. Israel has repeatedly called for Hezbollah to be expelled from its borders so that its people can return to their homes in northern Israel.
Earlier, Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah said Israeli forces had not fully taken control of any villages in south Lebanon.
