Former Rivers State lawmaker Chidi Lloyd has accused Governor Siminarayi Hubara of running a unilateral government.
Lloyd said in an interview with Arise News on Friday.
He claimed that Mr. Hubala’s government had no commissioners.
“Nobody bothered to find out that the Rivers State governor is running a solo government because one, he doesn’t have a commissioner and two, he doesn’t have an expenditure. ” he said.
His comments came amid intense backlash against the Federal High Court’s judgment that restrained the Central Bank of Nigeria from disbursing funds to Rivers State.
The Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) had previously promised to suspend all its members from office if the verdict was not overturned.
But Mr Lloyd called on Parliament to consider legislation that would make it a crime to make derogatory comments about judicial officers.
“It’s unfortunate that we’ve reached a situation where people are free to abuse judicial officers,” he said.
“Judicial officers must be protected, so I would like to appeal to Congress to consider a bill that would criminalize verbal abuse against judicial officers.”
Speaking on the alleged defection of certain members, Mr. Lloyd maintained that the actions of Mr. Martins Amayure and his colleagues did not amount to defection, saying, “In the floor of the Rivers State House of Assembly, they supported the All Progressives Congress.” It was just an announcement.” APC) does not legally qualify as asylum. ”
