Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced that he has allowed his supporters to join political parties of their choice for the local government elections in the state.
He explained that despite his instructions, he remains a member of the Labor Party (LP).
Otti said this in the November edition of his monthly media chat with reporters in Umuahia magazine.
Naija News reported that the LP, the official political party of the state government, did not field any candidates in the local government elections.
The Zenith Labor Party (ZLP) won 15 municipalities and the Youth Party won two councils, fueling rumors that the governor had concluded plans to defect to the ZLP.
However, on Thursday Otti said: “I will remain with LP. If I need to leave, I will be properly informed.”
“I can definitely say I’m on LP.
“Due to the LP crisis, many supporters have gone elsewhere. Our employees know who will deliver the goods. As our people say, the children you send away are You know not to embarrass yourself when you refuse to eat even if you are hungry.
“I think that is exactly what happened in this case since I ran for office in 2015. When I left PDP to join APGA, our people followed me. , then I won that election.”
“Until then, APGA had not won a single city council seat, but in 2015 it won almost half of the seats in the House of Representatives.
“So people sometimes realize that political parties are empty platforms and that when you muddy things up within a party, you give your competitors an advantage and create opportunities, and that’s what happened in this election. It happened.
“I have allowed my followers to join whatever political party they want, but the majority of them have moved on to other parties. I will remain in the Labor Party.
“Whenever I leave, and I mean if I need to leave, I will be properly informed.”
