Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Segun Sowunmi says his party’s 2023 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has not told anyone about his 2017 ambitions.
He explained that he asked Atiku twice about his presidential ambitions in 2027.
So Eun Mi revealed this in an interview with News Central TV.
He pointed out that the PDP is a very structural party and has no intention of giving its ticket to the people at any level.
Mr Atiku’s former presidential campaign spokesperson maintained that candidates must participate in the PDP primaries to get all the tickets.
Sowunmi said, “PDP is a very interesting and organized party. We are different from our rivals. We do not ‘dash’ presidential tickets or any other tickets to people. All PDP tickets, starting with the smallest (city council member), must be contested in primaries, similar to gubernatorial races. The presidency is no exception.
“I have been insisting that it is too early for PDP to talk about the 2027 presidential election. Why? Because we need to fix the vehicles that will take everyone there. Does it make sense? So I think it’s a little premature.
"In any case, Mr. Atiku has not clearly told anyone that he intends to run. He asked twice, months apart.”
