Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Nigeria’s leaders to wisely utilize the country’s rich resources for the development of the country.
Speaking at the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Methodist Archdiocese of Abuja in Abuja on Sunday, Obasanjo stressed that Nigeria has everything it needs to thrive.
Obasanjo echoed the sentiments of Methodist Prelate Dr. Oliver Abba’s message, stressing the importance of being thankful for God’s blessings.
“Just as God created other nations and endowed them with resources, He has blessed Nigeria with many resources for growth.
“Just as Egypt has the Nile, Nigeria has the Niger and Benue rivers, as well as oil, fertile soil and other natural resources.
“I strongly believe that God did not create Nigeria for hardship. God has provided us with everything we need, especially that what we have in Nigeria has become available to many countries. It is our duty to thank God because we lack it,” he said.
Obasanjo acknowledged that Nigeria’s current situation is not God's fault and called on leaders, clergy and the people to pray for the country’s healing.
“We have squandered God’s gift, but if we humble ourselves and seek Him, He will heal our land.”

In his goodwill message, Tinubu praised the pioneering role and impactful vision of the Methodist Church in Nigeria.
“I celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Archdiocese of Abuja, a testament to the Church’s enduring spirit of faith, community and service over 183 years in Abuja and in Nigeria.
“Through social justice, education, and humanitarian efforts, the Methodist Church has made significant contributions to the development of our country and changed lives across America.”
Tinubu commended the church for its promotion of peace and unity and called for continued dedication.
“As leaders, we recognize our responsibility and commitment to overcome obstacles. I call on you to continue with your compassionate mission, as a united effort is essential to meet national challenges.” .”

He quotes Luke 17:15-17, mentioning the ten lepers who were healed by Jesus, but only one returned thanking God.
