Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman candidate Konrad Utern has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) could win the 2027 elections.
He warned that this would happen if the ongoing problems within the PDP continued.
Mr. Utaan said this while addressing reporters in Abuja on Wednesday.
He lamented that the national crisis had rendered all key figures in the PDP powerless.
Naija News reports that the PDP has been grappling with internal conflicts since gearing up for the 2023 presidential election, which has led to the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, being defeated by APC’s incumbent president, Bola Tinubu. This was one of the reasons why he lost to Mr.
Commenting on the situation, Utaan said, “Look, our party, PDP, is in such disarray. We don’t like to admit it, but if PDP continues this crisis the way it is, APC will be in trouble in 2027. He may move on to another term by then.
“Due to the problems we are facing within the party, the PDP bigwigs are inactive. This is why North Central will complete his term as PDP National Chairman to resolve all the issues. This is the reason for this claim.
“By the way, this term ends in November 2025. I will not be running for the chairmanship for four years. We are running to complete it. It belongs to North Central. It belongs to Zone B of Benue. It is ours.
Utan said it was unfortunate that the PDP has been in an internal crisis for so long, and urged the North-Central government to immediately propose a replacement for Damagum for approval at the National Executive Committee meeting on October 24. He emphasized the need to do so.
“It was the national chairman of the PDP that came to us in North Central and then all of a sudden we found out that Damagum was becoming more or less the de facto chairman. And then no one said anything. So I decided to challenge myself again.
“And our case is no exception. The PDP chairman is in charge of the North Central region. If the party, or the party’s national executive committee, decides that Mr. Damagumu should be the substantive chairman; They should come forward and let North Central know. If not, North Central will have to bring in a replacement. We have nothing left in North Central, but in the Northeast we have a national deputy. “You cannot have both chairperson and national chairperson at the same time,” he said.
He said he was not too proud to stress that the PDP urgently needs peace and genuine reconciliation and called on all stakeholders to assist in achieving this.
