The governor expressed that he had made every effort to maintain cooperative relations with his predecessor to promote peace in the state, but his efforts had not yielded the desired results.

Naija News reported that the ongoing political tension between Mr. Hubala and Mr. Wike escalated significantly as the state held local government elections over the weekend.

The governor went ahead with the election on Saturday despite the withdrawal of the PDP, APC and the police from the electoral process.

The state was thrown into turmoil on Monday after the swearing-in of 22 winners of a controversial local government election.

Violent clashes broke out in at least four local government areas, with thugs setting fire to parts of the buildings at parliamentary offices in Eleme, Ikwerre and Emofua.

Additionally, sporadic shootings were reported in eastern Ahoada as a form of resistance against newly appointed council officials.

The riot occurred after police officers who were scheduled to guard 23 parliamentary grounds withdrew on instructions from the police chief.
