Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticized FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over the alleged land seizure and transfer to employees, warning that the minister will ultimately be held accountable for his actions. did.
Mr. Adeyanju made this statement on Friday at a press conference in Abuja in response to Mr. Wike’s comments the day before.
The minister mentioned Adeyanju in his press conference, saying: He is from Kogi State. This boy came to me and said he wanted to become the National Public Relations Secretary of the PDP and I said no. I said he wouldn’t be, but he wasn’t. I have no regrets about that. Suddenly he became a civil society activist. Since he didn’t have a job, he decided to become a civil society activist. ”
The remarks were made following a protest led by Adeyanju on behalf of the victims of the house demolitions carried out by Wike.
Mr Adeyanju responded by ridiculing the minister, accusing him of being averse to constructive criticism and vowing to continue to challenge any questionable conduct.
He alleged that Mr. Wike was implementing policies such as land grabbing that adversely affected the people.
Mr Adeyanju said: “He does not blame us for the allegations we have raised. In fact, he replied that he is giving land to his friends that he has taken from the poor, but he is giving the land to his enemies. Should we give it to them? These are the people who are in charge of this country, and they should be in prison for corruption and election fraud. They are giving moral lectures.”
Lobbying the PDP National Public Relations Secretary
Addressing Wike’s claims, Adeyanju admitted that he sought support from Wike during his playing days, but rejected the idea that Wike was central to his ambitions.
He disclosed that the outreach to the minister was part of broader consultations with PDP stakeholders.
The lawyer revealed that he had met with PDP governors at the time and had received the support of many governors.
Mr Adeyanju said: “Everyone knows that I quit politics eight years ago. And that incident he is talking about happened before I quit. Since then, I have been in jail. , I have been harassed and beaten on the street.”
He also refuted Wike’s claim that he was against his candidacy, saying, “In fact, when I was active in politics, he twice said he supported me and twice he supported me.” He did it,” he said.
Ms Adeyanju criticized Wike for raising the issue years later, saying it was unnecessary and selfish.
He further accused Mr Wike of turning against him due to past disagreements over ministerial support for certain politicians.
Suspicion of plunder and land grabbing
Mr. Adeyanju claimed that Mr. Wike’s career in the civil service had centered on personal enrichment, accusing him of monopolizing public resources and engaging in corrupt practices.
“Where is Wike’s second address? Wike does not have a second address. His only claim is plunder of public resources and public purse. Look at what he is giving to his friends: he is robbing parks and converting them into residential buildings,” Adeyanju said.
Finally, he accused Mr. Wike of having a “God complex” and being intolerant of opposing views, saying there was evidence to support Mr. Wike’s claims.
