Achike Udenwa, former governor of IMO state, condemned corruption in Nigeria's election system.
Naija News reports that former governor Udenwa has stated that most of Nigeria's current leaders lack the quality of leadership needed to advance the country.
In an interview with Edmund Obilo’s state affairs on Saturday, the former governor of IMO noted that voters had not questioned the integrity and capabilities of candidates for political staff before voting.
He emphasized that voting purchases have also affected the country’s electoral system as a result of difficulties and poverty.
He said that most politicians will buy all institutions that should protect the election process, and condemned institutional negligence in the domestic integrated election process.
“Unfortunately, our society will no longer ask what you can do, what your antecedent is, what type of character you have, whether you say it or vote for me. We will never ask such questions again.
“And of course, you can buy your way without me voting for you. If you have the right amount in your hands, you can buy your way. Ask the court, everyone, buy everything. And that’s one of the things we have to restrain, because if we hold it back, we will get the right leadership. There is no right leadership. We have no right to do. We have no right to do,” he said.
The IMO governor from 1999 to 2007 explained that most politicians aim to take office just for a gorgeous lifestyle, rather than for the nation. He added that most political office holders lack the ability and ability to advance the country.
“That’s a big problem. Today, you see people fighting in all sorts of elections. I want to be governor, you do all sorts of things to be governor. I want to be a minister, I want to be a senator, and I want to be the rest of them. But most of these people don’t have the quality of leaders. They don’t have the qualities you need.
“Some of them are already leading us. Square pegs with round holes that are part of the problem. Honestly, most of those people answer the leader. Leaders are not leaders. They are not leaders. They don’t even know where they are heading. Many of them see the office tools appear flashy.
