The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the successful distribution of 55,859 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for next month’s Ondo State governorship election.
This development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the National Chairman and Chairman of the Committee on Information and Voter Education, Sam Olmekun.
Mr Olmekun said the collection of PVC would be transferred to the commission’s local government offices.
The statement indicated that the commission facilitated the collection of PVCs from the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in all 203 wards of Ondo State over a period of five days.
Naija News reports that the Ondo governorship election is scheduled for November 16, 2024.
In light of this, INEC urged the remaining voters to collect their PVCs from their respective local governments and reiterated its position that it will not collect cards on behalf of others.
“The Commission notes that at the end of the five-day period, 55,859 cards had been personally collected by new registrants and applicants for the transfer and replacement of lost or damaged cards, as required by law. We are happy to announce that this number represents 62.2% of the 89,777 collectible cards.
“This is the highest percentage of PVC collected in a five-day period in Ondo State since the commission introduced CVR in 2015. A detailed breakdown of collection by local government area is available on our website as public information. has been uploaded to its website and social media platforms.
“Meanwhile, collection will resume at 18 local government offices in Ondo State from 9am to 5pm every day (including weekends) from tomorrow (Wednesday, October 23rd) until Tuesday, October 29th, 2024. Detailed information on the location of local government offices in Ondo State is already available on our website,” the statement read.
