The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the counting of results for the Ondo State governorship election from 5am to 12pm.
The reinstated Professor Olayemi Akinwunmi, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, initially announced that the collation of results for the remaining five local governments would resume at 5am on Sunday. However, he then said the process would begin at noon.
Professor Akinwunmi explained that the adjournment was necessary for the arrival of results from the remaining local government areas including Akure North, Okitipupa, Odigbo, Ilaje and Ese-Odo.
“Five more local governments need to be counted but we will take a break until 5am to receive the results from Akure North, Okitipupa, Odigbo, Ilaje and Ese-Odo,” Akinwunmi said in a statement. said. Collation will resume for these municipalities at 5am. ”
So far, the results of 13 out of 18 local governments have been released by INEC. According to the results, Mr. Ayedatiwa received 259,851 votes, leading his closest rival, Mr. Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 81,031 votes.
