The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the replacement of Olusola Ebiseni as the Labor Party (LP) candidate for the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
This decision follows the judgment of the Court of Appeal.
INEC confirmed the development on its official X-handle on Friday evening, saying that Olorunfemi Ayodele Festus, whose name was initially announced as the Labor Party candidate, has returned.
The decision, taken hours before the election, was a dramatic development for Labor, which had been preparing for a strong campaign.
The Court of Appeal’s ruling in favor of Festus’ candidacy invalidated Ebiseni’s claim on the ticket, forcing INEC to make last-minute adjustments.
The post read: “The Commission was yesterday, November 14, 2024, served with a certified true copy (CTC) of the judgment of the Court of Appeal setting aside the judgment of the Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja Division.
“The FHC in case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1105/2024 ordered the Commission on September 27, 2024 to accept Olusola Ebiseni as the Labor candidate for the 2024 Ondo State governorship election.
“However, in the appeal filed by the Labor Party with reference number CA/ABJ/CV/1172/2024, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal set aside the FHC judgment on the ground of lack of jurisdiction.
“Pursuant to the court order, the commission has reinstated the name of Olorunfemi Ayodele Festus for the first time published as the Labor Party candidate for the 2024 Ondo State governorship election and uploaded to this website as public information.”
