Island Drilling’s Island Innovator rig’s first mission began on August 16, 2024, since the infill drilling campaign in Block G offshore Equatorial Guinea concluded in February 2024. Work related to Mauritania’s plug-and-abandon campaign with Tullow Oil has been completed. October 15, 2024.
The semi-submersible, built in 2012, won a contract extension with Petrofac for plug-and-abandon operations off the coast of Mauritania in January 2023. This extension follows a December 2021 agreement secured with Maersk Dekom before Petrofac assumed responsibility for the decommissioning scope of the subsea well.
According to the rig owner, the work, carried out at depths ranging from 208 meters to 1,200 meters using only dynamic positioning (DP), was completed within the planned time frame and on budget, ensuring collaboration was efficient and effective. It was said to reflect gender.
The Island Innovator rig has been tasked with performing five well re-entries in the Banda and Tiof fields operated by Tullow Oil, and its scope of work includes abandoning suspended subsea exploration and appraisal wells. , as well as various seabed cleanup activities.
The Banda and Thiof fields are two oil and gas accumulations located approximately 53 km and 84 km offshore from Nouakchott. The Island Innovator rig is a sixth generation semi-submersible drilling, well intervention, and completion unit of the GM4000 WI enhanced design.
Island Drilling highlighted that all health, safety and environment (HSE) standards and key performance indicators (KPIs) were achieved throughout the project. “One team” approach.
“We are proud of the achievements and positive outcomes achieved during this period and look forward to the opportunity to work with Tullow Oil in the future.”
