The Labor Party (LP) has harshly criticized the Rivers State local government elections held by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) on Saturday, labeling the process as flawed and unconstitutional.
In a statement from Port Harcourt on Monday, the LP vowed to take legal action against RSIEC, alleging that the election was marred by gross irregularities and important electoral laws were ignored.
The Publicity Secretary of the Port Harcourt City Electoral Council, Dr. Francis David Mathew, expressed his disapproval by saying: area. It is extremely important that the public understand that what occurred was not an election, but a coronation ceremony that was orchestrated without adhering to our country’s election laws. ”
Mathews argued that core principles of free and fair elections were ignored and stressed that the LP had substantial evidence of fraud. He believes the courts will rule the election invalid.
“A notable example is the lack of use of Biometric Voter Authentication System (BVAS) and lack of result sheets at 938 out of 960 polling stations in Ward 20 for the Port Harcourt City Council election This is a serious violation of the law and we, as a party and as Rivers residents, categorically reject this travesty,” he added.
Matthew emphasized LP’s commitment to legal recourse, explaining: “As law-abiding citizens, we intend to address these serious violations in court.
“We have irrefutable evidence from thousands of witnesses at various polling stations in the Port Harcourt City Council, all of whom have experienced and documented this illegal process firsthand.”
He urged LP supporters to remain hopeful, noting that the judiciary has often corrected election fraud. Matthew expressed confidence that the court will thoroughly evaluate the evidence and reach a fair and just resolution.
