Member of Parliament representing Ikwano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in Abia State House of Representatives. Obi Aguocha has declared that as things stand, Julius Habre is the National Chairman of the Labor Party (LP).
Naija News reports that Mr. Obi, an ally of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, said this while speaking on the recent defection of members from the Labor Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said there was no leadership crisis shaking the Labor Party that would justify Labor MPs leaving the party.
In an interview with The New Telegraph, Aguocha noted that no political party is free from crisis, but the leadership remains resolute in finding solutions.
Regarding exile, he said: “We have governors, but some people are only attached to the five decampes.
“They are my colleagues and I don’t mean to speak ill of them because it was a personal decision that they made.
“Some of them have publicly explained their actions and some of their comments were about perceived divisions within the Labor Party.
“There is no political party, especially the top three in Nigeria, that does not have any problems. The APC has problems. The PDP has problems. Of course, the Labor Party also has problems.
“But most importantly, the Labor Party leadership remains resolute in finding solutions to the problems we have within the Labor Party.
“Yes, our matter has been heard in the High Court and is under appeal. I believe that by the time the court decides on the direction of the party, we will all know the direction in which to go.
“But because of the court’s decision, rightly or wrongly, Julius Habre is the leader of the party. Therefore, there is no division within the Labor Party.”
2027 Election
Mr. Obi Aguocha pointed out that it was also a matter of self-reliance, as most of the defected MPs were from states without a Labor government.
“Perhaps they are under pressure that without state aid, elections in 2027 will be very difficult,” he says.
