Kano nurses given 15-day strike notice due to unmet demands

The Kano state chapter of the National Association of Nursing and Midwifery of Nigeria (NANNM) has given the state government a 15-day ultimatum to go on a state-wide strike if it fails to meet its demands.

Wednesday’s ultimatum was issued by Comrade Ahmad Hazmat Sharada, acting secretary and public relations officer of the branch, following unresolved issues between nurses and the provincial government since December 2023. It was in a signed letter.

In a letter dated October 2 to the Kano State Director of Civil Service, NANNM said that if the government fails to meet its demands, nurses and midwives in the state will withdraw their services from all clinical facilities and training institutions. I warned you.

Some of the demands outlined in the letter include revised hazard pay payments for nurses, first requested on February 2, 2024, and a revised system of services for nurses, submitted in January 2024. Contains harmony.

The association also requested the payment of a 25% upward review of the CONHESS salary structure requested in April 2024, along with other demands outlined in the reminder letter sent to the government on 20 August 2024. demanded.

The letter also mentioned several attempts by the union to engage with the state government through formal correspondence, but said no satisfactory response has been received to date.

If the strike goes ahead, it could have a serious impact on the state’s healthcare system, as the suspension of nursing services could lead to the suspension of critical clinical work, impacting patients and healthcare delivery across Kano state. There is sex.

The Kano State Government, at the time of filing this report, is yet to respond to the ultimatum by NANNM.
