Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has reaffirmed the state’s determination to hold local government elections scheduled for October 26, 2024, despite a Federal High Court ruling invalidating the vote.
The court invalidated the election procedure on the ground that the card-holder, a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), was an executive officer of the electoral commission.
Governor Yusuf made this declaration on Thursday night at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium while presenting NNPP flags to 44 party chairmanship and municipal council candidates.
He stressed that the nation will not tolerate destroying the peace currently enjoyed by its people.
“As of now, the state has no one to shake the existing peace enjoyed by its people,” Yusuf said, adding that both the state government and the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission have all necessary constitutional requirements to proceed with the elections. He claimed to have the above evidence. .
The governor clarified that all legal and procedural requirements have been met, saying: “We have met all the conditions set by law and have completed all necessary preparations to hold Saturday’s elections.” Therefore, voting must proceed as planned.”
Yusuf also cited concerns about potential efforts to disrupt the electoral process, vowing that such attempts would be thwarted.
“We are aware of the plans of enemies of the state to disrupt this election, but by the grace of Allah, they will not succeed. The elections will be held peacefully and reliably,” he added. Ta.
He stressed the state government’s readiness to implement the election results and praised NNPP members as true supporters of the party and encouraged them to actively participate and prepare for the upcoming elections. .
He expressed confidence that the NNPP would secure all 44 chairpersonships and 484 council seats, citing huge support from the people.
NNPP Acting National Chairman, Dr. Audu Ajuji, shared the governor’s optimism on the peaceful conduct of the elections and the party’s prospects of winning all elective offices.
Similarly, state NNPP Chairman Hashim Dungurawa praised the large number of supporters who turned out for the flag presentation event, saying it was a testament to the party’s strong grassroots presence.
