Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo has ordered all foreign airlines to use local caterers for in-flight meals.
The minister noted that airlines will have to comply with this directive from January 1, 2025.
This is contained in a letter dated October 15, 2024, signed by the Director-General, HT Ejibunu, who oversees the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation, Abuja. He then wrote to the Acting Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nigeria.
The letter said: “I have been directed by the Honorable Minister of Aviation to inform you of the decision to require all outbound flights from Nigeria, particularly foreign airlines, to provide in-flight meals to local caterers.
“We are therefore hereby directed to communicate this decision to all foreign airlines seeking strict compliance from January 1, 2025.”
In September 2024, Keyamo gave the NCAA a 24-hour ultimatum to take action on ticket funds stuck with some airlines, especially those that have suspended operations in recent months.
Mr. Keyamo gave the order at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos State during the launch of the NCAA Consumer Protection Portal, which ensures real-time reception of complaints from air travelers.
The Minister regretted that some passengers who had previously booked tickets on some airlines are finding it difficult to get their funds back.
