The Labor Party (LP) has announced the establishment of a Directorate General for International and Diaspora Affairs under the leadership of National Chairman Julius Habré.
The party made the announcement in a statement by its National Public Relations Secretary, Obiora Ifor, after the conclusion of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held virtually on Tuesday.
He said the new directorate would have powers to manage the affairs of Labor Party members in the diaspora and how they could effectively participate in party life.
Mr. Ifor disclosed that the new Director of the Board will be Professor Eddy Oparaoji, while Mr. Aju Elumelu will serve as the Executive Secretary.
“In addition to the task of managing millions of party members in the diaspora, we also have to figure out how people in the diaspora can actively participate in various party congresses, including district congresses. Must be.
“The NEC also directed that various committees, including the Electoral Reforms Committee, Political Education Committee and the State Council of Elders, be set up immediately,” he said.
The NEC also commended the Directorate General for Mobilization and Integration, Dr. Marcel Ngogbehei, and its Secretary, Mr. Sheikh Rufai Al Sadiq, for the successes they have recorded within six months and urged them to work on further membership growth.
“The NEC also approved the reorganization of the Mobilization and Integration Directorate. The party commended the immediate successes achieved by this Directorate less than six months after its inauguration,” Ifor said.
Regarding the need to create an electoral reform commission, Labor Party national chairman Julius Habre said that the party will continue to push for comprehensive electoral reform, as the party will be a major casualty in the 2023 elections. said. Nigeria.
“We note that the Labor Party will pursue electoral reforms in Nigeria as it is a major casualty in the 2023 general elections.
“And in order to have trustworthy and proactive leaders who work in the interests of the people, the process that leads to the selection of these candidates must be trustworthy, fair and transparent.
“In this regard, the Labor Party is ready to pursue comprehensive electoral reform in Nigeria. The commission must be cognizant of all the laws and institutions of our country and therefore make recommendations to the party.” .
