Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo has claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will elect the Labor Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in 2027 if Julius Habre continues as its national chairman.
According to Naija News, Okonkwo disclosed this in an interview with Arise TV.
He described Habre’s leadership approach as transactional politics, stressing that the LP as currently constituted is nothing more than a “helper” to the ruling APC.
The movie star, who served as the spokesperson for the LP presidential campaign in the 2023 election, was booked by Abre for former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 election. He told how he got his ticket revoked.
He said: “In a country like Nigeria, there is no time to spare as the ruling party seeks ways to ensure that the opposition parties compromise.
“What I can say is that the Labor Party as currently formed is now a handmaiden of the APC.The Labor Party’s 2027 presidential candidate will be decided at the APC seats.
“We know what they are doing. They are currently meeting with people who will help people win in court.
“Because if no one in your party supports you, who are you going to lead now?
“Recall when Abre went to Nnewi to hold an illegal election, because in my view the Supreme Court has not ruled, he said the ticket was reserved for Peter Obi. I said that it has been done.
“I said on this show at the time that it was bribery and that they wanted to use it to get Peter Obi to turn a blind eye to the illegal activities they were doing.
“When their term ended, even Peter Obi did not say their term was over, it was INEC but they were disgraced.
“That will be INEC’s responsibility. If INEC said its term is over, why did it not accept the management committee?
“Now, what did Abre say when Peter Obi went to Umuahia to do the right thing? No, the ticket is no longer booked.
“What does that say? They’re transactional politicians with no policy or principles, but what they’re doing there is transactional.
“He said, Otti, we don’t have your tickets. Who do you think they’re reserving tickets for? Let’s give you a pose.
“The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly told Otti that I will not sit as a ruling party man and allow the opposition to rule Abia State.
“And then there is Habre, who says the ticket is no longer reserved for you and you are winning in court.
“The witch cried at night and the baby died during the day. What do you think is going on? It’s not an indictment, he said it openly, but I don’t see the connection. Masu.
“All Labor Party tickets are reserved for APC people and we have already talked about that relationship. It is no coincidence.”
